Local craft centre transforms gallery into working studios

The Guild craft gallery in Bovey Tracey is to be a new venue for the annual Devon Open Studios this year. During 7th -29th September,  six Guild Members will showcase their work and be present at the centre, demonstrating their craft, chatting and letting people have a go – all in the UK tradition of local artists opening their doors to the public.

For locals and visitors it’s a unique opportunity to hunt out artists in beautiful, unexplored Devon as well as buy art direct from the creator, chat or try a technique themselves.

They can find all this at the Guild’s Riverside gallery, which will be transformed into makers’ studios. Here you can meet weaver Jane Deane and have a go at spinning, chat to printmaker Hugh Dunford Wood - known for his stunning wallpaper, meet Kate Toms (and try needle-felting) also Luna North who demos printmaking methods. Sarah Vigars introduces her hand-carved statement jewellery – and Caroline Hall will teach different textile techniques.

The Guild is pleased to host this working space for its Members, creating a busy craft hub with free demos, meet the maker and taster sessions at Riverside Mill. These live, hands-on activities aim to introduce people to the sometimes hidden skills of our local makers.

Find the full programme on the Guild website: www.crafts.org.uk/events.

Open daily 10am-5.30pm. Entry to venue and all events is free. No booking is required.
