Over the last few months people have been calling in to offer information and memories about Trinity Hall – now Cygnet Theatre – in Friars Gate, Exeter.  Trinity Hall is 100 years old this year and everyone is invited to a spectacular birthday celebration!

Up and coming young local playwright Tom Nicholas has gathered and formed the stories people have brought into a play called Trinity, which has been woven into an immersive piece of theatre by Alistair Ganley and Clare Parker, Cygnet’s talented Artistic Director and Dance Specialist and Choreographer.

Audiences are now invited to come and explore every corner of the building and discover the stories, as they are brought to life by a dedicated group of 23 local actors, who have been meeting regularly with the Cygnet Company.

From the Dedication ceremony by the Bishop of Exeter in September 1913 as the Parish Hall and Sunday Schools for Trinity Church (now the White Ensign Club at the bottom of South Street), Trinity Hall has provided a vital local resource.   Through two world wars, in its various uses for Trinity and St Leonard’s Churches, and then as a youth club, boxing club until its present-day use as Cygnet Theatre, many memories are there to be shared.

Stories are set in every decade of Trinity Hall’s life.  Audiences will be able to wander among the ‘ghosts’ of many generations of occupiers from choir-boys to Mods and Rockers and roller-skaters as they progress around the building – now newly refurbished and the beautiful home of Cygnet Theatre.

Wear your most comfortable shoes and come and join us as this exciting local landmark building reveals itself – and at the same time reveals some of the rich heritage of Exeter’s Western Quarter.

Trinity opens on Tuesday 28th October as part of Exeter’s exetreme imagination festival of writing by and for young people.  The play runs for just under 90 minutes and starts at 7.30pm Tuesday 28th October until Saturday 1st November, with two matinees at 2pm on Thursday 30th October and Saturday 1st November 2014.  Tickets: £10 Adults; £6 Student and Child.

Cygnet would like to acknowledge with gratitude sponsorship from The Norman Family Trust and Exeter Arts Council.
