Force Cancer Charity Christmas Fair returns

On Saturday 5 December the Force Cancer Charity Christmas Fair is taking place in the Cullompton Community Centre, organised by Dorcas Philips for the fourth year running.

Four years ago, Dorcas Philips’ mum was diagnosed with cancer and received an overwhelming amount of support from Force Cancer Charity, fuelling the family to want to return the kindness and support other families who are suffering from cancer.

Last September Dorcas and her fiancé completed the Force 10k superhero run dressed and Batman and Bat Girl, raising £400 for Force Cancer Charity but they are determined to raise more. Over the past four years, the Christmas fair has raised almost £8,000 and they are hoping to raise £2,000 this year to bring that total up to a solid £10,000.

Having been cancer-free for over 18 months, Dorcas’s mum decided to celebrate her 50th birthday by running the race for life, in spite of the fact that she suffered two broken legs as a result of her chemotherapy and had a further operation to prevent ovarian cancer. Alongside Dorcas’s sister, the pair raised over £800 for charity Breast Cancer Care.

However, cancer is still an illness that remains close to the entire family as family friend Ruth died this year after a 12 year battle with cancer and so they continue to support Force Charity and fundraise as much as possible.

30 stall holders and local businesses are set to fill the first floor of the community centre, with the second floor being a café area for tea, coffee, cake and a fantastic sweet stall.

The family friendly event is free to enter and has disabled access and free parking; making it the perfect opportunity to bring family and friends to Cullompton to support local trades and crafts people, as well as raise money for a deserving charity. As in previous years there will be a raffle with a prizes including family days out.
