The Blackheart Orchestra are coming to Exeter on 13th May to perform at Poltimore House.

They have toured extensively in the UK, Australia and New Zealand and are touring later in the year with Canadian star Jane Siberry and 60s legend Melanie Safka before embarking on a headline tour of Europe in November.

The Blackheart Orchestra is a British singer/songwriter and multi instrumentalist duo comprising long term collaborators Chrissy Mostyn and Richard Pilkington. The Blackheart Orchestra is a seamless continuation of the duo Blackheart, the addition of 'orchestra' referring to the many colours, instruments and broad genres of music that these two very talented individuals bring to their exciting stage performances. Not a sixty piece brass, string, percussion etc. unit....but an orchestra, in all but numbers, nonetheless.

The band blend musical styles in a non-conformist way seamlessly sidestepping boundaries and fusing pop, folk, jazz, classical and even electronica to create their classically driven, emotion-drenched pop.

One moment their sound is extremely minimalist and fragile, weaving melodies and atmospherics through silence to create ethereal yet hooky melodies that leave audiences and critics describing their work as unique, enchanting and captivating. Other times the pair create a wall of sound using ancient synthesisers, electronic drums, guitars and bass to create vast energetic symphonic climaxes.

Chrissy's unique sometimes fragile sometimes powerful voice is complemented by Richard's rich choral harmonies. The band have drawn comparisons to Kate Bush, Ellie Goulding, London Grammar, Pink Floyd and Ludovico Einaudi.
