Weekly rep continues at the Manor Pavilion Theatre in Sidmouth this week with the arrival of the third production, Amy’s View by David Hare. The classic social comedy will play from Thursday 9 to Wednesday 15 July, with a press night on Thursday 9 July at 8.00pm.

The Summer Rep Season sees one company of actors present a season of twelve classic revivals throughout summer, with a new production each week until the end of September.

Exploring love and loyalty over a sixteen year period, Amy’s View follows the ever-evolving relationships of a West End actress, her daughter Amy, and Amy’s boyfriend. From the first meeting between the widowed mother and the brash young gossip-columnist boyfriend, it is clear that they live by completely different values. And so starts a blistering journey through family relationships and conflicts across a generation, where each must decide what’s worth fighting for. But Amy’s view is that love conquers all; so if she loves Dominic, surely her mother will too? Set against the changing face of Britain and popular culture, Amy’s View is an enthralling, stimulating and witty drama about the power of love and loss.

Amy’s View premiered at the National Theatre in 1997 starring Judi Dench as Esme and Samantha Bond as Amy, transferring to the West End in 1998 and then Broadway in 1999. David Hare is a prominent English playwright, screenwriter and theatre and film director whose plays and films have seen him nominated for two Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards and three Tony Awards, in addition to winning a BAFTA Award and two Laurence Olivier Awards. Most notable for his stage work, David Hare has written over 30 plays such as The Secret Rapture, Skylight, Racing Demon, The Blue Room, My Zinc Bed, South Downs and The Judas Kiss, with many being presented both on Broadway and in London’s West End.

The cast features Fiz Marcus as Esme Allen, Sarah Kempton as Amy Thomas, James Lawrence as Dominic Tyghe, Pearl Marsland as Evelyn Thomas, James Pellow as Frank Oddie and Matthew Curnier as Toby Cole.
