Ahoy there... Quirk Theatre and Exeter Phoenix present a family Christmas show full of adventure

Travel to Treasure Island and search for pirates and loot in a story based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s book.

It is 1953 and wartime sugar rationing has finally ended. Jess Hawkins and her gang, dreaming of gobstoppers and pineapple chunks, slip into old Mr. Jenks’ garden, just like they do every afternoon after school. Jenks has never caught them… not until today that is.

Mr Jenks is a gardener… but he is also a pirate! Threatening them with the Black Spot, he takes them on a wild adventure on the high seas meeting bloodthirsty Black Dog, mad Ben Gunn and the infamous one-legged pirate, Long John Silver. Before long Jess and her gang don’t know if they are in a 1950’s garden or on an uncharted desert island where X marks the spot!

Providing an alternative to the usual Christmas pantomime, Quirk Theatre makes magical pieces of theatre.  Co-founder Simon Hall says, ‘We believe that strong storytelling and honesty in performance underpin good theatre; this doesn't mean that our shows aren't a good lark, but it does mean that we want to make something that will endure in children's memories, creating a love of theatre that should last a lifetime.’

Sponsoring this year’s show will be JoJo Maman Bébé the stylish children’s wear boutique on Exeter’s famous Gandy Street.  The Marketing Director for the brand said, ‘JoJo is delighted to be involved with the Exeter Phoenix production of Treasure Island and hope families really enjoy the Christmas show.  Supporting the local community is very important to JoJo and this show gives children the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful theatrical experience.  It is a perfect partner for an independent retailer that loves Christmas and is full of gifts and toys that make for fantastic presents.’

In addition, Lush will be holding special Pirate Workshops for this year’s show.  An hour of pirate art activities will include cannonball bathbombs and other exciting and creative goings-on.  Workshops cost £2 and can be booked with a ticket to the show.
