An estimated 2,500 people visited the University of Exeter’s Streatham Campus for a fun-filled programme of free family events yesterday.

The award-winning grounds were abuzz as local residents took part in tours, a treasure hunt and a wide range of sports sessions, from football skills with Exeter City football club,  to archery, touch rugby, and ultimate Frisbee.

The vibrant event featured a farmers’ market and a family disco, alongside the chance to hear first-hand form world-leading academics on their research.

Professor Sir Steve Smith, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter, said:  “It was a real pleasure to welcome our neighbours from across the region to our beautiful campus.

"It was a delight to see an altogether younger clientele enjoying our wonderful facilities.

"We have so much to celebrate here at Exeter, from being named in the Times Higher Education’s top 100 universities worldwide to winning  the Times and Sunday Times Sports University of the Year.

"We’re proud to be able to share that success with our community.”
