Scouts add a sparkle to Seaton Wetlands

The 1st Lym Valley Scout group had a wonderful morning down at Seaton Wetlands on March 20, as part of their weekend adventure.

After camping at Seaton Scout hut, the Scouts walked to Seaton Wetlands nature reserve to undertake an orienteering challenge. They worked together to navigate their way around Colyford Common and back to the Wetlands Reed Base.

After a well-earned picnic lunch the group spent some time cleaning the windows on three of the bird hides. Visitors to the Wetlands will now get an even better view of the wildlife on site thanks to the Scouts.

Tim Dafforn, Countryside Team Leader, said:  “It was great to have the help of the Scouts. They had plenty of energy and enthusiasm to complete the tasks and did a fantastic job. We can offer exciting to trips like this to any community group that i interested in exploring this area.”

Karen Yelland, Scout Leader added: “Some of the Scouts were doing the weekend as part of their expedition challenge badge, while others walked from Uplyme to Axminster and caught a bus to Seaton.  They all had a great time and enjoyed the orienteering course at the Wetlands as well as cleaning the windows on the site. I will definitely be bringing the Beaver Scouts for some bug hunting in the summer - the Wetlands is a great place for children."
