A musical gala not to be missed

Tickets are still available for Saturday’s (November 18) Classics Galore! concert at the University of Exeter Great Hall.

There are more than 100 seats (£12-£18) left in the main auditorium with just a few remaining in the gallery and boxes (£15-£24.50).

It is one of the most eagerly awaited events on Exeter’s musical calendar with a total of 200 musicians including a symphony orchestra, brass band and chorus performing popular classics with a flag waving, sing-a-long Last Night of the Proms style finale.

“The programme for this year’s gala concert will feature highlights such as  Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves, Hallelujah Chorus, Dam Busters March, Live and Let Die and extracts from Les Miserables – truly something for everyone,” said Malcolm Matthews, orchestra and choral director.

“Rehearsals are in full swing and the performers are looking forward to putting on a concert to remember.”

Classics Galore! has been held every two years since 2007 to raise money for FORCE Cancer Charity.

Profits from this year’s musical extravaganza are set take the overall total raised from all six concerts to nearly £90,000.

That figure will be boosted by a draw that has more than £1,000 worth of prizes including tickets for a top London musical, a family holiday, a 737 jet flight simulator experience, golf or pamper days, dinner at an award-winning restaurant, a case of fine wine and a hamper of bubbly and chocolates.

“Once again Classics Galore! has been fortunate to receive great support from local business through generous sponsorship and some very special and unusual Grand Draw prizes,” said organising committee chairman Annie Bassett.

“A full evening of marvellous uplifting music and entertainment is planned to raise further much needed funds for FORCE Cancer Charity and the community it continues to support. Order your tickets now to be sure of being there!” she added.

The concert starts at 7:30pm but the Terrace Bar at the Great Hall will be open from 5:15pm for meals– no need to book - and a shuttle bus service to and from the main car parks is provided between 5pm and 11pm.

Tickets can be bought from the Exeter Visitor Information & Tickets (EVIT) - call in at the Dix’s Field office, email evit@exeter.gov.uk or phone 01392 665885 - and online at www.classicsgalore.co.uk
