Film debut for Devon Morris Dancers and chance to be an Extra in iShort Festival

An exciting new short film, Hell's Bells, made by Exeter based film and theatre company Wandering Tiger, will be shot in Devon this summer after winning the backing of Creative England and the British Film Institute through their iShorts scheme for emerging filmmakers.

Described as a psychological thriller about Morris dancing, Hell's Bells is a new short film written by Exeter writer & director Luke Jeffery, and tells the story of Rosie Dean, a young woman who has been brainwashed by a group of renegade Morris dancers!

Now in pre-production, Hell's Bells have linked up with the Totnes based Dartington Morris Men for the only iShorts project selected in the whole of Devon, Somerset or Cornwall.

Luke Jeffery, writer/director of Hell’s Bells, said: "Forget everything you know about this ancient British pastime, we’re going to show Morris dancing like you’ve never seen it before.”

Get Involved!

Whilst iShorts cover the basic production costs for cast, crew, transport, catering and insurance, Wandering Tiger have launched a Crowdfunder campaign to raise the remaining funds for all the things you see on screen including costumes, props, equipment, stunts and even a few pyrotechnics! There are a number of opportunities on offer to get involved with the project in return for funds, including visiting the set and the chance to appear as an extra.  For more details and to watch a Hell's Bells preview go to www.crowdfunder.co.uk/hellsbells

Phil Geraghty, MD of Crowdfunder.co.uk said: “It’s brilliant to know that we are working with the future of England’s talent. Those crowdfunding today could well be the directors, producers and writers of tomorrow’s blockbusters.”

Luke's previous film, Seeing Red, won the Audience Award at the Exeter Phoenix's Two Short Nights Festival in 2014 and Hell’s Bells will also be submitted to a number of other film festivals too, including the London Short Film Festival and Aesthetica Film Festival. A local screening of Hell's Bells will take place at the Exeter Phoenix later in the year.

Casting will start shortly for the lead character of Rosie Dean, who will join the confirmed cast members of Josh Fedrick, a former West End Billy Elliot and Seeing Red's Charlie Coldfield, who was also in Wandering Tiger's sell out 2015 production of Granny Eyeball.
