Wynstream’s Dodgeball Stars Advance to National Finals for Third Year Running

Wynstream Primary School in Exeter, part of Education South West , is celebrating a remarkable sporting achievement as its Under 11 Dodgeball team progressed to the National Finals for the third consecutive year, this time achieving their highest-ever finish at the regional stage with a runner-up position.

The team stormed through the group stage with an unbeaten 100% record, winning all five matches to top their group. They then overcame Montgomery in the semi-finals, a team they had never beaten before, in a thrilling match that secured them a place in the final.

Exeter School Combined Cadet Force had something to celebrate recently, when three of their cadets were awarded Army Scholarships. Katie Olding, Amanda Herring and Alex Newman attended an Army Officer Selection Course at Westbury in Wiltshire, and were among the few chosen to receive an Army Scholarship. This means they will be paid a salary by the Army while at University and go on to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst after completing their university degrees. Exeter Deaf Academy students took to London earlier this month to conduct their own ‘Parliament Question Time’ in the Houses of Parliament with Exeter MP, Ben Bradshaw.

Following a very successful visit to the Deaf Academy from Ben Bradshaw last year, Exeter Deaf Academy’s School Council were invited to the Houses of Parliament to meet with him and to tour around the Houses of Commons and House of Lords.

Launched in September, Young Creatives is an award scheme created by holidaycottages.co.uk in partnership with Devon Libraries. Aiming to promote creativity in children and young adults, the award scheme asks schools, parents and families to work together to encourage children to spend more time being creative and enjoying Devon, instead of playing video games or watching TV.

Devon schools above national average on exams

Pupils in Devon schools are doing better than their colleagues in tests right through their primary and secondary careers.

New figures released by Devon County Council show that local children are beating the national and regional averages in tests in every single phase of compulsory education.

In Early Years, 68 per cent of children in Devon are achieving a good level of development compared to 60 per cent nationally and 62 per cent regionally.

Popular science communicator Dr Simon Singh, MBE visited Exeter School on Monday 10 November to give a talk for 700 school children from across Exeter and beyond.

£1m research grant for Exeter academics

The University of Exeter has been awarded £1 million by the Wellcome Trust to establish an initiative aimed at advancing our understanding of living systems and the causes of disease.

Around 130 Exeter College Higher Education students will don their caps and gowns on today (Friday 24 October and take to the streets to process through the city for their Graduation Ceremony, which is being held at Exeter Cathedral at 3.00pm.

Santander donation boosts education for deaf children

Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education has received £2,220 to fund new equipment for its Sensory Pod to support students’ physical and emotional development needs.

The donation was provided by the Santander Foundation, which offers grants to UK registered charities for projects that help disadvantaged people in local communities.

Day nursery opens in Broadclyst

An exciting evening was had by all at Echoes Childcare when it was officially opened by Alex Brown from Exeter Chiefs.

The children's day nursery and holiday club opened it's doors on the 1st of September and is owned by Jo Cook and Michele Stevens, two childcare professionals who had a dream to open their own nursery over 24years ago.

Ted Wragg Trust to run new Cranbrook school

An Exeter educational trust has been selected to run Cranbrook’s new two to 16 all-through school.

The Ted Wragg Trust already numbers Isca and St James secondary schools and Whipton Barton infants and junior schools among its members.

Named after distinguished Exeter educationist Ted Wragg, the trust is led by Exeter University, Exeter College, Flybe and EDF.

Devon County Council recommended the Trust as sponsor for the new school and the decision has now been confirmed by Education Secretary Nicky Morgan.
