Exciting plans have been unveiled for a brand new replacement school at Ladysmith Junior in Exeter.

The £2.3 million scheme would see the outdated buildings replaced with a modern design with facilities fit for 21st century learning.

The old buildings would then be demolished and the whole area landscaped with environmentally-friendly grounds.

The scheme will be paid for by the Government’s Education Funding Agency and is subject to final funding approval and planning permission.

Exeter School was delighted to welcome back alumnus Kevin Brooks on Friday 26 June to speak to pupils from both his former school and four local secondary schools. Carnegie Award winner Kevin Brooks was born in Exeter in 1959 and received a scholarship to attend Exeter School from 1970-1977, before studying Psychology and Philosophy in Birmingham and Cultural Studies in London. Author Kevin spoke to a music hall of around 200 excited pupils from Exeter School, St Peter’s Church of England Aided School, St Luke’s Science and Sports College, St James School and the Isca Academy.

The first day of the Buckfast Abbey Storytelling Festival was a great success with schools despite the torrential rain, which threatened to make it a wash-out.

The day started off well but just as the schools were about to do their first sessions with the host of well-known storytellers, who had come to the Abbey for this unique event, the skies just opened.

Many paths were flooded and the storytelling tent of Footprints Theatre Company from Nottingham let in so much water that they had to abandon it and retreat to an inside space.

A new headmaster has been appointed to lead Exeter’s 800 year old Cathedral School.

James Featherstone is currently Head of the Lower School at the Perse School in Cambridge, one of England’s top performing independent schools.

He will take up his role as the Headmaster of Exeter Cathedral School from January next year, when current head Stephen Yeo leaves after four years to take up his new post leading Britain’s elite music school, The Purcell School for Young Musicians.
