Schoolchildren at Kenton Primary School have received a boost to their computing skills learning, thanks to three Exeter businesses.

Amos Lighting, Devondale Electrical and Oneserve joined forces to sponsor the purchase of robots based on Crumble programmable software, to help the children gain a better understanding of coding.

Learning to code is part of the new computing curriculum, and until the businesses stepped in, children were limited to seeing their programmes on a screen rather than running in a real situation.

Young global entrepreneurs attend Broadclyst School’s awards presentation at Microsoft offices in London

The young entrepreneurs who won the 2016 Global Enterprise Challenge (GEC) run by Broadclyst Community Primary School (BCPS) picked up their awards from Sir Hugo Swire MP (pictured with one of the winning teams) and from Microsoft’s Vice-President of Worldwide Education, Anthony Salcito at the new Microsoft offices in London on 12 October. The awards presentation was the culmination of the 2015-16 GEC, in which 700 students aged between 9 and 12, in 200 teams across 20 countries, participated.

Farmwise Devon takes food and farming message to 10,000th school child

Farmwise Devon welcomed the ten thousandth primary school child through its doors at Exeter Westpoint Arena this week, as the event celebrated its fourth year educating children about where their food comes from.

Year two pupil, Katie Boore from Brixington Primary Academy, Exmouth, was among 1,400 children attending the event on Wednesday 11 October.

The interactive day was organised by Devon County Council and was designed to take primary school children on a food journey from field to fork using touch, taste and practical activities.

Good Schools Guide awards for Exeter School

Exeter School is the recipient of two Good Schools Guide Awards.

The co-educational independent school has been honoured for its excellence in GCSE Spanish and AS Level Physics.

This is the first time Exeter School has received a Good Schools Guide Award for Modern Foreign Languages and the third year in a row for Physics.

Director of Science Dr James Wilson said it was the ninth subsequent year that Exeter School had received a Good Schools Guide Award for Science.

Secondary school admissions round now open

Despite increasing pupil numbers, Devon is still meeting 95 per cent of parents' first choices for primary and secondary school places.

The admissions round for moving to secondary schools is already open for the 2017-18 academic year. The deadline for applications is Monday 31 October.

Exeter School library celebrates 10th anniversary

Exeter School's library celebrated its 10th anniversary with a poetry event to tie in with National Poetry Day and 400 years of Shakespeare on Tuesday 4 October.
