Exeter Students Kick Off Year of Reading with Top Author

Year 8 students from West Exe School marked the start of the National Year of Reading 2026 with an inspiring live session from children’s author Tom Palmer.

During the event, students heard about Tom’s writing journey, gained insights into his storytelling process, and learned how to turn their own passions and interests into engaging stories. The session encouraged confidence, creativity, and a love of reading and writing among pupils.

Secondary school admissions round now open

Despite increasing pupil numbers, Devon is still meeting 95 per cent of parents' first choices for primary and secondary school places.

The admissions round for moving to secondary schools is already open for the 2017-18 academic year. The deadline for applications is Monday 31 October.

The primary school admissions round, including moving from Infants to Junior School, opens on Tuesday 1 November 2016 and closes on Sunday 15 January 2017.

Exeter School library celebrates 10th anniversary

Exeter School's library celebrated its 10th anniversary with a poetry event to tie in with National Poetry Day and 400 years of Shakespeare on Tuesday 4 October.

The School House Library, named after its origins as the boarding accommodation (dormitories and studies, called study row) when the school accepted boarders, was the venue for pupils, staff, guests, Governors and alumni to enjoy refreshments and tours by pupil guides which showcased the library's extensive facilities.

Members of Exeter Labour Party took to the streets this past Saturday, following a rallying call to defend education from their recently re-elected leader, Jeremy Corbyn. Exeter School welcomed former pupil and BBC sports commentator and broadcaster Sara Orchard to Speech Day on 22 September where she entertained all present with tales of her 13 years working on the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, the Rugby World Cup and Wimbledon.

The University of Exeter is the top university in the southwest according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017.

The university, which was The Times and The Sunday Times University of the Year for 2012-13, ranks 9= in this year’s league table. The Southwest region is well represented in the wider top 20 with Bath ranking 12th in the UK and Bristol 19th.

Exeter Youth Flutes is an exciting new ensemble for flautists aged 8 - 18. The musical director and founder of Exeter Youth Flutes is Ruth Molins. Ruth has over ten years' experience of teaching the flute and coaching ensembles in the South West.
