Devon schools join Hon. Dr Stuart Lawrence to front project to improve reading standards in primary schools

Devon County Council is backing a special programme that can help struggling children improve their reading age by more than two years in just eight weeks.

HFL Education’s KS2 Reading Fluency Project is being launched nationwide today (11 July 2023) and is backed by teacher, author and activist Hon. Dr Stuart Lawrence.

The programme has been running in schools around Devon since 2020. 87 schools in the county with 689 pupils ranging from Year 2 to Year 8 have taken part.

School Recycling Workshops Continue to Thrive

More than 500 pupils across East Devon have taken part in workshops about the importance of recycling, thanks to an initiative by East Devon District Council (EDDC) and their waste contractor Suez.

Led by Suez’s Recycling Officer, Jess Prosser, the school children have enjoyed games and presentations highlighting the waste hierarchy and the value in reusing and recycling material.

During the past year Jess has spoken to 525 primary school pupils who have enjoyed a series of activities to sort materials and learn how and where they can reuse material.

Unity Schools Partnership, a soon-to-be family of 33 secondary, primary, middle and special schools, has become IMP Software’s 300th MAT customer.
