St Luke’s Students Explore Digital Careers in Entrepreneur Workshop

Students at St Luke’s Church of England School in Exeter got a taste of the digital world during a hands-on entrepreneur workshop led by Evo Academy.

Fifteen year 9 and 10 students took part in the session, which offered an introduction to the world of digital enterprise and innovation. The workshop gave students the opportunity to explore how digital skills can be used to develop ideas, solve problems, and create opportunities in a fast-changing world.

GCSE German pupil takes first prize in Goethe Institut Digital Days Competition

A GCSE German pupil from Exeter School has taken first prize in a prestigious Goethe Institut competition.

Middle Fifth (Year 10) pupil Katie Hayman was awarded first place in the News Reading category of the Digital Days Competition for which she had to film herself reading the news in German.

Katie beat almost 150 applicants to win a £50 prize and impressed the panel of judges who said it was very difficult for the selection panel to come to a decision.

Care agencies invited to attend conference

Quality and Partnership are the key themes in speeches from lead organisations at the annual Devon Care Training conference, this year titled What I do Matters.

British Sign Language Club launches at Exeter Central Library

Devon County Council’s Exeter Central Library is launching a regular BSL Club this month.

Taking place on the last Thursday of every month (starting 29 August), from 7-9pm, the free group will be an informal gathering and is open to deaf and hearing users of British Sign Language.

It’s a great opportunity to meet friends, share deaf news and views and get access to information available in the library.

There will also be tea, coffee and biscuits!

West Exe thrilled with best ever GCSE results

West Exe Technology College is today celebrating its best ever GCSE results and staff and Governors are looking forward to sharing their pride and delight with students when they collect their individual results tomorrow.

46.9% of grades A* and 80.3% of grades A* or A Exeter School pupils, parents and staff are celebrating another round of consistently good GCSE results which have set two new records in excellence. 46.9% of all grades were A*, beating last year’s record of 46.5%, and 80.3% were A* or A grades, compared to last year’s 75.5%. 99.5% of grades were A* - C. Isca College students celebrate 'best ever GCSE results'

Students and staff at Isca College are celebrating their best ever GCSE results with 57% of students achieving 5A*-C grades, a 11% increase on last year’s scores.

Local community invited to consultation for new Exeter Maths School

The first consultation for the new Exeter Mathematics School (EMS) will be held on 28 August at the University of Exeter.

The new school will be a mathematically oriented, academic sixth form, providing an environment in which those with an interest in, and aptitude for, mathematics can be stimulated, developed and stretched.

The EMS is due to open in September 2014, with 30 year 12 students drawn from Devon, Dorset, Cornwall and Somerset and is co-sponsored by the University of Exeter and Exeter College.

Exeter School pupils, parents and staff are celebrating another set of very good A Level results with an overall pass rate of 100% for the tenth year in a row. 18% of all grades were A* and 56% of grades were either A* or A. 84% of all grades were A* - B. High Pass Rates throughout Exeter

Exeter's students have recieved their A-Level results and local schools have been reporting overall successes.

The university application body UCAS has revealed the highest number of applicant acceptances recorded for A level results day.

UCAS says it has processed all A-Level results with 385,910 applicants already accepted into a UK university or college, up 31,600 (nine per cent) on results day last year.

Ian Blenkharn, Head of Admissions at the University of Exeter said:

100% Pass rate for Maynard School

The Maynard School have achieved excellent A-Level results this year, with all of their A2 students passing at A2 level.

60% of students had A* or A Grades, and 85% of students gained A*- B Grades.

A spokesperson for the school said: “This year we are delighted that all of our students have gained a place at their choice of university. Many are going on to study at Russell Group universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Bristol, Warwick, York, Durham, Southampton and St Andrews.”
