Find World Book Day costumes for free in Devon libraries

Libraries Unlimited is partnering with Recycle Devon to bring World Book Day costume swap rails to 15 libraries in Devon. World Book Day 2026 is Thursday, 5th March and library swap rails are running from 16th February to 8th March. Customers are invited to donate outgrown, unwanted children’s costumes in good, wearable condition. Costumes will be available to take home for free!

Thousands of St John’s Gospels – replicas of the gospel given to all troops as they were sent off to fight in the First World War – are to be given to Devon’s school children as part of centenary commemorations.

The Gospel, complete with some hymns and paintings, was designed to fit in soldier’s top pocket, and to provide comfort and hope in the trenches.

A student from the University of Exeter is on track to become the next star of Formula One engineering, after being short-listed for a prestigious worldwide competition.

Mechanical Engineering student William Priest (pictured) has secured a place in the world finals of the elite Infiniti Performance Engineering Academy.

William, 23, beat fierce competition from 1,500 top Engineering students, from more than 100 universities worldwide, to secure his place as the only British student in the final 12.

Students visit City Bee Project

Students from St Peter’s C of E Aided School in Exeter visited Princesshay’s City Bee project on Thursday 5 June as part of World Environment Day.

The geography ambassadors of St Peter’s joined by SLL Geography, Mrs England, continued their education high above the busy shoppers of Exeter on Princesshay’s rooftop garden.

Exeter School pupil wins place at Salters' Chemistry Camp

An Exeter School pupil has won a place on a sought after Salters' Chemistry Camp.

Middle Fifth (Year 10) pupil, Rachel Broderick, has been selected to take part in the camp held at the University of Sussex this summer.

Head of Chemistry, Zoe Jarvis, said these places were very popular and Rachel had to complete a compelling application giving her reasons for wanting to take part in the camp. Rachel will spend several days in the labs, taking part in practical projects, using a range of undergraduate equipment and working with university postgrads and teachers.

Year 6 pupils across the South West are putting their artistic skills to the test as part of a campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

Wales & West Utilities is working with The Carbon Monoxide and Gas Safety Society to help better inform children, who are amongst those most at risk of the CO poisoning, the so-called silent killer.

Clyst St Mary pupils visit solar park site

Pupils from Clyst St Mary Primary School years four and five spent a day learning about energy from the sun and went on a hunt for bugs and wildflowers at a site visit to a proposed new solar park at Shepherd’s Farm on Friday (June 6).
