A new perspective on art that touches all the senses

Exeter School is to exhibit artwork produced by WESC Foundation pupils and students for the second year running.

An exhibition of sensory artwork produced by visually impaired artists will be held from 18-21 June, 10am – 3pm, in the Andrews Hall to which all are invited, beginning with a private view on Monday 17 June from 6-7.30pm.

John Mason, Exeter School’s Head of Art, said he was pleased to host ‘Sensational! 2013’ as it was beneficial for pupils attending both schools.

“The exhibition gives our pupils a new perspective on art as the WESC’s artwork touches all the senses.”

Irena Boobyer, WESC Foundation Art Teacher, said: “The collaboration between our schools is a welcome opportunity to celebrate and showcase the creative talents of our pupils and students who have sight loss and complex needs.

“The artwork on display demonstrates how art provides an alternative means of communication and a vehicle to express ideas using a range of different sensory materials including clay, glass, fabrics and thread.”

Group art activities at WESC Foundation this year include the Dartmoor Ten Tors winning rag-rug banner and the ‘WESC Factor’ 175th Anniversary glove sculpture. Recycled materials have also been transformed into jewellery and musical instruments.  Further highlights of the exhibition include Dartmoor-inspired pottery and glass-casting.  A Sensational! Art Exhibition not to be missed.
