Exeter is rightly proud of its university which attracts students, not just from the UK but from all round the world. And, as a leading member of the Russell Group of universities, much of the focus is on traditional subjects like English, Mathematics, and Medicine. But, like all educational institutions, it is also acutely aware that the 21st century demands a whole new set of skills from its graduates. So there are a number of courses in the prospectus with this very much in mind, that are proving increasingly popular with students.

Psychology with sports and exercise science

The university has always had a reputation for innovation in the sorts of studies that the Psychology faculty has carried out; for example, their report into the links between trees and mental health has already started to be used in urban planning. Another of their latest innovations has been to include psychology with sports and exercise science. Most professional sports organisations have come to understand just how important mental preparedness is for success, and this course aims to train the coaches for the next generation of sporting superstars.

Business studies

While most universities have business and marketing courses, Exeter leads the way in covering the very latest topics and specialities. For example, cryptocurrencies are becoming increasingly relevant in all kinds of ways and, to reflect this fact, the Business School now offers a module called Bitcoin, Money and Trust. This quest for knowledge is a trend that's also evident in the wider world where more and more people are seeking out information like a guide to cryptocurrency trading. The best of these guides provide the opportunity to learn about speculating in all kinds of cryptocurrencies, as well as explaining this complex and fascinating topic. And, now that a range of organisations from Microsoft to Starbucks accept Bitcoin for payment, a thorough grounding in all aspects of cryptocurrencies is becoming quite essential.

Renewable Energy Engineering

It’s generally acknowledged that the world’s reliance on oil, gas, and coal for its energy needs is simply not sustainable. So, for some time, the race has been on to find efficient ways to generate renewable alternatives through solar, wind and wave power. The south west of England has always led the way in the field and the university also has a brand new Renewable Engineering Energy Facility offering state of the art laboratories and workshops where the next generation of environmental experts are being trained.

Engineering and entrepreneurship

While the UK’s power as an engineering nation may not be what it once was, there is no shortage of potential to restore its position as a true world leader. This course aims to train the next generation of James Dysons and Elon Musks by teaching both business and design skills through a series of practical projects. The end of the three year course also sees students presenting their ideas to a sort of “Dragon’s Den” panel of university experts with funding available to take promising ideas further.

So, as you can see, Exeter University is truly looking to the future in all kinds of ways – and that has to be very good news for everyone.
