Year 10 pupils at Exeter School took part in an improvisation workshop delivered by professional actress and Webber Douglas graduate, Lucy Curtin, last week.

The workshop proved an ideal preparation for a day of workshops organised by the Northcott theatre taking place on Friday 24 June.

Head of Drama Jamie Brough said the pupils have looked at elements of 'clowning' as well as improvisation games and techniques this term.

"All of this work has not only helped them prepare for an exciting collaborative project with the Northcott theatre, ISCA and Dawlish schools at the Northcott, but also has given them tools and ideas to explore as they approach their GCSE devised performances," said Mr Brough.

"This term the pupils have been studying the work of theatre practitioner Jaques Lecoq, and it has been a delight to watch the pupils adopting his sense of 'play' ('le jeu') and 'openness' (disponibilité); having fun, being brave and being playful."

Many of the pupils have pushed themselves outside of their comfort zones and have learned a great deal as a consequence.

Thanks to Lucy for inspiring the students and reminding them that life is much more fun if we are willing to play!
