Overview
The Intermediate Apprenticeship is primarily aimed at businesses who want new staff to undertake a customer service role. The apprenticeship can also enable current staff to accredit their current skillset.

There are three strands of the apprenticeship to choose from of which you would choose 1 depending on your business needs.

1) Dealing with customers via incoming calls
2) Dealing with customers face to face
3) Dealing with customers in a retail setting

Each strand includes a variety of units that the apprentice must complete: The units are industry specific and designed to work flexbiliy in the workplace.

An example of the units the apprentice would be expected to achieve are:

Mandatory Units
Communicate Using Customer Service Language
Follow the rules to deliver customer services

a) Deal with incoming telephone calls from customers
Deliver reliable customer services
Deliver to difficult customers
Develop your own customer services skills

b) Deal with customers face to face
Use questioning techniques when delivering customer service
Recognise and deal with customer queries, requests and problems
Develop personal performance through delivering customer service

Each programme will take a minimum of 12 months to complete attending college for one day per week in term time. The remaining time will be spent with the apprentice carrying out their job duties and being assessed in the workplace.

Key Facts
Wages - You must pay a minimum of £2.65 per hour for the first 12 months regardless of age. Apprentices aged 19+ entering onto their second year of an apprenticeship are entitled to the prevailing national minimum wage for their age
Hours - Minimum of 30 and a maximum of 40 including their time in college
Funding - Aged 16-18 on commencement of programme are fully funded. If an Apprentice is aged 19 or over there will be an employer contribution towards training costs of £65 per month for the duration of the programme
Grants – There is an AGE grant of £1500 for applicable employers
Recruitment - A vacancy can be advertised by Exeter College on the National Apprenticeship Services website and applicants shortlisted before being sent to you for interview. All successful applicants need to attend an Exeter College interview and assessment to ensure suitability for the programme.
