Children at Ladysmith Junior School in Exeter received a visit from Bob the Builder who talked to them about the build of their new school and the importance of site safety.

As part of the visit, pupils took part in a competition to have their art work displayed on hoarding around the construction site.

BAM Construction Western is building a replacement school for the children. The existing buildings will be demolished and the area landscaped with environmentally friendly grounds when the new school is ready.

The children were asked by Bob the Builder (Christian George - Project Surveyor at BAM) to design posters to raise awareness of health and safety on construction sites.

The posters were judged by BAM and Ladysmith Junior School staff, and blown up to A2 size to display of hoarding boards around the site. The winning design from a pupil in Year 5 showed a BAM supervisor giving safety advice on site.

“We ran the competition to engage young children in the construction industry and also to raise awareness of health and safety risks. The children enjoyed the day and created some great posters for our hoarding,” says Christian.
