Exeter School congratulates its Upper Sixth pupils on their very pleasing A Level results at the end of what has been a most challenging year for them.

Staff at the co-educational independent school for girls and boys from 7-18 years are proud of the Year 13 cohort for their hard work, dedication and positivity over the last few months.

The year group succeeded in scoring 84% A*AB grades which is in line with the school’s consistently high achievements over the last decade.

Headmaster Bob Griffin expressed sympathy with our A Level pupils, whose school careers were brought to an abrupt end by COVID-19 and who did not have the chance to cover the final furlong and prove themselves at A Level.

“Thanks to the painstaking work of their teachers and senior staff, who have run a scrupulous process to produce CAGs (centre-assessed grades), they have been rewarded, in the main, with the results that they deserve,” he said.

“The school has made the best of what was always going to be an imperfect process, which has been made more complex and worrying in recent weeks by events in Scotland, by general media hype and most recently by Mr Williamson’s 11th-hour announcement.

“Our pupils and their families can be rightly proud of their outcomes, which have enabled them to gain places for their chosen courses at a range of leading teaching and research universities. I congratulate them and their teachers on all that they have achieved in their time at Exeter School, both within and beyond the classroom.”

Emily Dixon from Cullompton joined Exeter School aged 11 from Clyst Hydon Primary School. Her A*AA grades mean she will study Biological Sciences at the University of York after a gap year.

Head Boy Ed O’Connor from Budleigh Salterton joined Exeter School aged 11 from Laytmer Prep School. Music Scholar Ed’s three A* grades ensure his place to read Music at the University of Cambridge.

Cesca Vercoe’s A*A*A grades enable her to study English Literature at Sheffield University. Head Girl Cesca from Christow joined Exeter School aged 13 from Exeter Cathedral School.

House Captain Archie Tamblyn joined Exeter School aged 12 from St Peter’s CofE School. His two As and a B mean he will be able to study Criminology at the University of Manchester after a gap year.

Tabitha Macpherson-Jorgensen joined Exeter School aged 12. Her A*AA grades secure her place at Bristol University to study Medicine in 2021 after a gap year during which she intends to spend time at a Danish Folk School learning about ecology, sustainability and permaculture.

Josh Grier from Exeter’s four A* grades confirm his place at the University of Oxford where he will read Maths. Rank Foundation Scholar Josh is currently on a two-week placement with a charity called Transforming Plymouth Together. During the lockdown period, he worked for the NHS and Public Health England responding to the 111 hotline about COVID-19. He is about to work for two weeks on the Home Office immigration programme.
