Pitch perfect: Football meets rugby in Exeter’s Strive ‘25 takeover

Exeter City Community Trust, the charitable arm of Exeter City Football Club, is stepping into a new sport as it joins a major national initiative to grow women’s rugby in the city ahead of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025.

The organisation, which is more used to the beautiful game than the oval ball, is joining with Exeter Chiefs and Exeter City Council as the delivery partner for the Strive ‘25 Rugby Challenge, a national programme aimed at engaging 25,000 women and girls in rugby across host cities. Mecca Bingo clubs around the country have teamed up with Variety the Children's Charity in order to help them in their support of children and young people across the UK who are disabled or disadvantaged.

Both renowned British brands have collaborated to create The Sunshine Flyer - a new bingo game costing £1, with 5p from each and every play being donated to the Variety Club of Great Britain in order to fund their incredible work.

Candles on the Canal is a new event hosted by local charity Hospiscare . Its purpose is to bring hundreds of local people together for a relaxed and uplifting evening in memory of loved ones who have died, taking place on Saturday 21 September from 4:30pm. Everyone is welcome regardless of who they are remembering, how long ago their loved ones died or whether they were looked after by Hospiscare.

Ottery St Mary coffee shop Tickety-Boo is offering a free cream tea to customers for one week only.

The offer is in support of Exeter Leukemia Fund’s ELF Cream Tea which is held throughout June each year.

Tickety-Boo head chef Trystan Bridgman said: “Customers can have a traditional cream tea with a scone, jam and cream plus a cuppa for free between Tuesday June 25 and Sunday June 30.

Kids in Cullompton are calling on children across the county to make a mess for a good cause - at an exciting event from Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

Members of Cullompton Junior Rugby Club showed off their skills on space hoppers as they took them for a test bounce to highlight Race for Life Pretty Muddy Kids events which is designed specifically for children.

It will take place on Saturday 20 July at Westpoint, Exeter, and the club is encouraging boys and girls to join them in making a splash for Cancer Research UK.

Local Kia dealership, Marsh Kia, is gifting a brand-new Kia Stonic to Living Options Devon, to help raise vital funds for the projects, services and support they provide to people with disabilities and Deaf people (BSL users). Local project Deaf Journey to Employment is awarded £10,000 by the National Lottery Community Fund

The Deaf Lead Services team at Living Options Devon are celebrating being awarded almost £10,000 in National Lottery funding to support Deaf people who use British Sign Language (BSL), to build confidence and learn new skills so that they can enter employment.
