Cumberland Grange care home in Exeter recently presented Honiton Carers Support Group with a cheque for £1,000 to support towards the cost of transport to enable their participants to attend the group. Honiton Carers Support Group is a warm and welcoming Carers Group which supports unpaid carers throughout their caring role and beyond. Bloor Homes has teamed up with Guide Dogs for the Blind to celebrate the launch of a brand-new country park with a dog-friendly Family Fun Day on Saturday 21st September.

Guide Dogs and Guide Dog puppies will coming along to the ‘dog-friendly do’ at the ‘Bloor Homes at Pinhoe’s development in Exeter, where there will also be a dog-themed charity raffle and an ice cream van complete with dog ice cream. FORCE Cancer Charity has appointed Kate Few-Singh as its new chief executive.

She will take over from Meriel Fishwick, who leaves at the end of October after 34 years with the Exeter-based charity, which supports local people affected by cancer.

Mrs Few-Singh has more than 20 years’ experience working in the healthcare charity sector, for both national and local charities including Sue Ryder and Hospiscare.

Little Sophia Windsor rang a bell last week. But it wasn’t any ordinary bell.

This was the bell on the children’s ward at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital , Exeter, and the chimes marked the end of more than two years of cancer treatment for the feisty tot who has beaten the odds and fought her way back to health.

Diagnosed with leukaemia at just 15 months old, Sophia, is now three. It is poignant that she completed her treatment this September, because it marks both Blood Cancer Awareness and Childhood Cancer Awareness month.

A Tiverton man has completed the first leg of his charity tour of the UK coast.

Jim Bray is taking on the mammoth road trip – entitled Exploring Britain’s Coast and Seaside Pubs – to raise money for Hospiscare.

The cash-strapped local charity cared for his sister, Emma Ansley, before she died of cancer aged 48.

Jim started from Tenby in South West Wales at the end of July and, travelling anti-clockwise, has reached the Exe estuary.

The man who founded one of the biggest charity rides in the region has completed this year’s event seven weeks after everyone else!

Topsham-based wine, food and travel writer Marc Millon set up The Nello in 2000 to raise money for FORCE Cancer Charity in memory of his great friend Nello Ghezzo.
