Local disability support service awarded £5,000 from The Cadbury Foundation

Local disability support charity, Community Equality Disability Action (CEDA), has received a £5,000 donation from The Cadbury Foundation, thanks to the support of local Mondelēz International employees in Crediton.

CEDA, which is a Devon-based charity dedicated to promoting the social inclusion of people with physical, sensory or learning disabilities, was selected by employees based at Mondelez International’s Crediton site, as part of The Cadbury Foundation’s annual ‘Your Charity, Your Choice’ programme.

Team Oncology raises more than £7,000 for FORCE

A team of cancer specialists from the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital has raised more than £7,000 for charity by doing laps of the Wonford site.

Eighty-six people took part in the challenge to run or walk two-kilometre circuits around the perimeter of the RD&E campus last week, before and after work and during their breaks.

They all joined in to raise money for FORCE Cancer Charity, which is still supporting local people affected by cancer during the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

United Nations first for East Devon charity

The Donkey Sanctuary based in Sidmouth is the first equine charity in the world to be accepted into the United Nations’ Mountain Partnership. The Devon based charity will now work with international governments, NGOs and private sectors for the common good of improving the lives of mountain people and protecting mountain environments globally.

Membership of the Mountain Partnership, which is part of the UN’s Food and Agriculture organisation (FAO), will be relevant to The Donkey Sanctuary’s international work to improve the welfare of working equines in mountain areas worldwide....

DETERMINED fundraisers across Devon and Cornwall are set to Race for Life at Home as they refuse to let the fight against cancer falter in these unprecedented times.

Organisers Cancer Research UK have postponed events for this spring and summer to protect the country’s health during the coronavirus outbreak – and this includes the Race for Life events in Exeter, Plymouth, Exeter, Falmouth, Penzance and Stithian’s Showground in Cornwall.

But as the country continues on lockdown, undeterred women and men are already vowing to carry on and complete a Race for Life challenge...

One more push! That’s the plea of a charity appealing for £60,000 to continue its work for the elderly and the vulnerable in a Devon community.

The Estuary League of Friends is based in Topsham and delivers social care to that community and those in a wide area nearby reaching parts of Exeter, Clyst St George and Clyst St Mary, and towards Exmouth.

In recent weeks the charity has of course added to its usual work with a huge effort to help those most in need during the Coronavirus crisis.

Exeter’s Really Big Quiz, which has raised over £84,000 for local charities over the past 16 years, has announced that despite the decision to move the annual May Exeter fundraising event to 2021, the Lord Mayor’s Charity of the year, CITY Community Trust, will receive £1,200 from The Really Big Quiz. The decision to move the event was taken in light of the impact of Covid-19 and necessary restrictions on social gatherings that remain in place for the foreseeable future.

Exeter College links up with Food4Heroes to provide meals for NHS staff

Exeter College has offered its state-of-the-art industrial kitchen facilities to Food4Heroes; a charity that provides free nutritious meals to frontline NHS staff during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The College’s @34 training kitchens will now be in use providing nutritionally balanced, free meals to NHS staff. These meals will include a vegetarian and a meat option and allergens will be listed on the dishes provided. Meals will be distributed to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in microwavable containers for NHS staff to take.

A grassroots community project has raised an incredible £3000 in aid of their production of vital Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for community-based health and care workers in their first weekend. They are hoping to continue raising around £1000 a day to keep up with the demand for face shields in the local community.

The PPE4Exeter project was launched last week in order to raise money for the materials needed to produce face shields for use by vital community services during the Coronavirus crisis. To date they have distributed over 1200 face shields to a variety of staff...

New Date for Race for Life in Exeter

ORGANISERS of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life in Exeter have announced a new date this autumn for the much-loved event.

The Family Law Company has raised £1600 for cancer charity FORCE in memory of a colleague who succumbed to the disease.
