More than 4,000 people fed at Christmas by the Exeter Chiefs Foundation

The Exeter Chiefs Foundation has funded its largest ever Feeding the Community at Christmas campaign, ensuring that 1,100 people received a proper festive feast.

Working in partnership with Exeter Food Action (EFA), the Foundation funded the distribution of essential festive fare – including meat, mince pies and seasonal staples – to 16 different charities and community organisations, supporting people who might otherwise have gone without.

An Exmouth-based charity which supports veterans and the serving military is the latest recipient of a charity donation from Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes.

Rock2Recovery has received £1,000 from the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes Community Fund – with the generous donation being used to provide help and support to veterans, serving personnel and their families when they are at their most vulnerable.

Alumni and supporters of the University of Exeter have got behind a campaign to raise a record amount in support of the institution’s work.

Since 2012, £60 million has been donated philanthropically to fund vital research into diseases such as dementia, diabetes and cancer; to seek solutions to environmental problems like climate change, plastic pollution and food security; and to understand important economic, social and political dynamics across the world.

Make-A-Wish UK recruits Children’s Board

The children’s charity Make A Wish® UK is putting young people at the beating heart of its activities by setting up a Children and Young People’s Board.

Make-A-Wish is recruiting eight young people from all over the UK who are aged between 11 and 20 and who have granted a wish in the past two years, to form the first STARboard.

The group will each represent a nation or region of the UK and help make decisions that shift the charity’s focus from being child-focused to one that is child-led.

Ottery garden centre announces impressive total raised for Hospiscare

The charity team at Otter Garden Centre in Ottery St Mary has revealed the total raised for their 2019 charity of the year, Hospiscare.

The team were delighted to announce that the final total soared over £11,500.

Branch Manager, John Giblin said: “Our fundraising efforts were helped immensely by the help we had from the Otter Vale Friends of Hospiscare, a local group of volunteers who supported many of our fundraising activities.

“They were amazing and worked really hard to make the partnership a success, which is reflected in the brilliant amount raised.”

NSPCC launch fun and furry fundraiser as it appeals for Devon businesses to support its Bear Diaries  

Businesses in Devon have the chance to recruit a furry helper and raise crucial funds for the NSPCC thanks to its new fundraising initiative.

The children’s charity is launching a unique fundraising opportunity in association with Build-a-Bear in which only a limited number of local businesses will be able to take part.

For a £50 donation, businesses can acquire a temporary employee in the form of a bear who can be present around the workplace between Monday 17 February and Friday 28 February.

Mince pies spice up fundraising for Elf

Christmas fundraising at Tickety-Boo in Ottery St Mary has brought the ongoing total to more than £750 for Exeter Leukaemia Fund.

The coffee shop team donated every penny from all the mince pies sold during a week on the run up to Christmas, which was added to money donated by customers into the Elf ‘spinner’.

Tickety-Boo chef, Trystan Bridgman said: “The mince pies sold really well and were enjoyed by everyone.

“We’re really pleased to see the total rising nicely. Our customers are always very generous so it’s a big ‘thank you’ from all the team.”

Charity will writing campaign raises £1 million for County Air Ambulance Trust HELP Appeal

A NATIONAL charity will writing campaign has smashed its £1 million fundraising target for the County Air Ambulance Trust HELP Appeal.

Since June 2014, Wills and Legal Services has provided people across the country with a professionally-written Will in exchange for a donation to the appeal.

And the Specialist Paralegal Law Firm reached the magical mark after raising £33,589 in December, bringing the overall total to £1,009,264.25.

The appeal funds life-saving helipads so air ambulances can land directly at hospitals throughout the UK.

PetRocks! Fundraiser for Exeter charity

Exeter Cavern will play host to the first PetRocks! fundraiser gig to help people in the city who are homeless.

Organised by local businessman and guitarist Dan Pritchard, of Susannah and the Noise, the gig on Thursday February 20 at the Gandy Street venue will see proceeds go to local charity St Petrock’s, which is working to address the problems caused by homelessness in and around Exeter.

Susannah and the Noise will be joined by Lottie, Ghost Hands and Charlotte AP for the gig.

Last year, between 45 and 95 people were accessing the charity’s drop-in homelessness...

Sell-out curry night raises £3K for Hospiscare

Two East Devon businesses that joined forces to put on a fundraising curry night raised £3,000 for local charity, Hospiscare.

The event was held in October at Higher Wiscombe Holiday Cottages, when Chef Robin Rea from Ottery’s Rusty Pig and his team created an Indian banquet. The meal featured sustainably sourced goat and chicken curry, with edible table decorations proving a real hit with diners.
