Charity reeling with unwanted kittens boom

Blue Cross is calling on cat owners in Devon to neuter their pets to avoid the hundreds of unplanned litters of kittens needing the charity’s care.

The charity is facing a hidden pet welfare crisis due to the ongoing cost of living crisis and is concerned that pet owners are not neutering their pet to avoid vet fees. There are also concerns that owners may be deliberately breeding their cat to sell the kittens, but a lack of buyers leads to them being brought into rescue or simply abandoned to fend for themselves.

Diabetes UK is looking for people from Devon to get on their bikes and take on the UK Wide Cycle Ride this September.

This September take your fitness up a gear and complete our coast to coast virtual challenge. You can pick your distance from one of four routes:

Fundraisers in Devon are set to unite against cancer by taking part in a special Race for Life day this September.

Organisers Cancer Research UK were forced to cancel all 400 mass participation events in 2020 to protect the country’s health during the COVID-19 outbreak. This included Race for Life events in Exeter, Barnstaple and Plymouth.

Devon’s Tesco stores are holding a special summer food collection to support the Trussell Trust and FareShare charities as they respond to an increased demand for food in the wake of the pandemic.
