Pitch perfect: Football meets rugby in Exeter’s Strive ‘25 takeover

Exeter City Community Trust, the charitable arm of Exeter City Football Club, is stepping into a new sport as it joins a major national initiative to grow women’s rugby in the city ahead of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025.

The organisation, which is more used to the beautiful game than the oval ball, is joining with Exeter Chiefs and Exeter City Council as the delivery partner for the Strive ‘25 Rugby Challenge, a national programme aimed at engaging 25,000 women and girls in rugby across host cities. Exeter residents take on chilly charity challenge

Over forty individuals slept out at St James Park, home of Exeter City Football Club to raise money and awareness for a local charity on Friday 17th March.

Families and friends ditched their beds and spent a night under the stars to raise funds for Julian House. The charity supports over 1,600 people in over 40 projects across the South-West who are facing homelessness, escaping domestic abuse, refugees and more.

West Country housebuilder Devonshire Homes has presented its first donation to its charity of the year, South West Blood Bikes.

University of Exeter student to run London Marathon for domestic abuse charity Refuge

A University of Exeter Business School student who as a child experienced controlling and coercive behaviour from a family member is running the London Marathon for the domestic abuse charity Refuge.

Emily Smith, 22, a final year MSc Business student based in Cornwall, will be raising money to support women and children experiencing domestic abuse and to mark the “end of a chapter” in her life.

Call goes out to make a splash in Diabetes UK challenge

A sponsored swimming challenge which raises vital funds for leading charity Diabetes UK returns this spring – and a call has gone out for people from Devon to sign up.

Swim22 runs between 22 March and 22 June and involves swimming a total of 22 miles –the same distance as the English Channel. Participants can take on the challenge at their own pace, in their local pool or the open water, accumulating the miles across the course of the 12 weeks.
