Amy Martin during treatment for breast cancer and recently with her family

Amy tackles huge challenge to thank FORCE

Twelve months ago, Amy Martin could barely run at all after a tough regime of cancer treatment.

But on Sunday May 24, she’ll be one of 440 people lining up as part of Team FORCE at Exeter’s Great West Run.

Amy aims to raise £1,000 for FORCE Cancer Charity to say thank you for all the support she has received from them since a diagnosis of breast cancer in late 2023.

She has signed up for the 10k — the 13.1 mile half marathon option wasn’t on the cards — and admits: “I will be walk-running, but I will finish it because I am a bit stubborn and — let’s be real— I’ve...

Lesley’s father, Stephen Harper, has organised a twice-...

John Lewis customers are directly involved in how much money is donated to each charity, as they are given the ability to vote through the Community Matters scheme.

The scheme enables customers to receive a token at the till, which they then pop into the box of the charity they would like to receive funds. At the end of each round of voting, John Lewis splits a £3,000 donation according to the proportion of the customer vote they received.

Increasing number of legacy disputes for charities

You are pleased to learn that your charity has been left a large legacy or even the residue of the Estate under a generous donor's Will. Then 'bang' comes the solicitors' letter – a disappointed beneficiary does not think the Will is valid. A legacy officer's nightmare no doubt and one which in these trying times is becoming more common, not less.

Probate litigation has increased in recent years and appears set to continue to do so. Statistics from the Ministry of Justice show that probate actions nearly doubled during the period from 2006 to 2011....

In the city of Exeter you may have heard whispers of a Magic Carpet. Although it is unlikely that you will come across Aladdin on Exeter’s Magic Carpet, what you will come across are some rather intriguing and interesting projects run by a local arts charity.

Magic Carpet is Exeter’s local arts-for-health charity and they work in all areas of the arts including painting, printing, photography, sculpture, ceramics, animation, film, music, drama, dance and environmental arts. The charity began in 1981 by a group of Exeter University students, who recognised a gap for provisions for...
