Five years ago, Dan was homeless, living in supported accommodation, and struggling with addiction and mental health challenges.

Exeter Leukaemia Fund would love to hear from anyone, whether new to ELF, current or previous supporters, who are interested in helping to form or be part of a new supporter group in Crediton and the surrounding areas. In a moving presentation to Exeter Enterprise Rotary Club, Lt. Colonel Gary Green spoke about how he responded to a personal tragedy in his own life caused by the death from cancer of his wife four years ago. Amazing news! ECI and Exeter Community Bikes has been chosen by the Big Give to take part in its Christmas Challenge. The Challenge is a 7-day donation extravaganza. Every donation is doubled. We have a target of £3,000, so we could get £6,000 for Exeter Community Bikes!

First we need to raise £1,500 in pledges between now and 11 October. Pledges are used to match the online donations. The minimum pledge is £100. Please spread the word far and wide and ask people to pledge to support our project.

Exeter cancer charity calls for more runners

Organisers of the fourth Force/Francis Clark 10k Race at Powderham Castle have called for more runners to sign up for the annual event in a bid to break previous entry records and boost fundraising.

The event has grown considerably since the first race in 2010 and now features a 5k run and a 2k family run as well as 5k & 10k mountain bike rides around one of the most picturesque routes any runner or rider could wish for, taking in the Castle, the Exe Estuary, extensive woodland and the deer park.

Dave's sail success for Exmouth RNLI appeal

Volunteer Deputy Launching Authority, Dave Ashman has raised £605.89 for Exmouth RNLI’s latest appeal. Dave took part in the Eddystone Pursuit sailing event on 13 July, off the Plymouth coast.

The fundraising total consisted of £400.18 sponsorship and £205.71 prize money from the annual competition. The Eddystone Pursuit was set up in 2002 by Julia Creeke, in memory of her Mother to generate money for worthy causes. This year, the competition raised £63,471 for 35 charities.

Local charity Exeter YMCA is issuing the challenge, to those with a daring heart, to run the Great West Run on behalf of Exeter YMCA wearing an imaginative costume. The runner with the most impressive costume will receive two day passes at the Exeter Golf and Country Club as a prize.

Exeter Youth Squad's 24-hour famine raises money for St Petrock's homeless charity

On 29 and 30 July, members of Exeter Youth Squad took part in a sponsored 24-hour famine to raise money for Exeter-based charity St Petrock’s.

The group of 13- to 19-year-olds are raising awareness of homelessness in and around the city as part of a community action project devised by the young people themselves over the past few months.

After identifying homelessness as a key issue in the local area, they decided to hold the sponsored 24-hour famine, which involved participants not eating for a whole day.

Golfers ‘putt’ in their all for Hospiscare

50 teams of keen golfers were greeted by glorious sunshine at the ninth annual Hospiscare Golf Day on 11 July.

Playing to take home the Marnie Burgoyne Memorial Trophy, the first team teed off on the 18 hole course at Exeter Golf and Country Club at 8.45am, and a steady flow of teams followed until the final team finished at 7.30pm.

The teams followed their time on the green with a two-course carvery before a raffle was drawn and the winners were announced.
