Pitch perfect: Football meets rugby in Exeter’s Strive ‘25 takeover

Exeter City Community Trust, the charitable arm of Exeter City Football Club, is stepping into a new sport as it joins a major national initiative to grow women’s rugby in the city ahead of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025.

The organisation, which is more used to the beautiful game than the oval ball, is joining with Exeter Chiefs and Exeter City Council as the delivery partner for the Strive ‘25 Rugby Challenge, a national programme aimed at engaging 25,000 women and girls in rugby across host cities. If you’ve visited Exeter recently, you will almost certainly have noticed the increased numbers of rough sleepers in the city.

According to a recent report from Shelter, 3700 people were deemed homeless last year in Devon and Cornwall.

The cost-of-living crisis is much to blame and impending budget cuts to homelessness prevention schemes are likely to worsen the situation.

It is for these reasons that the Devon County Agricultural Association has selected the Amber Foundation as it’s charity of the year for 2023.

Devon Air Ambulance’s clinical aircrew are to take part in a 37-mile challenge to help raise awareness of the charity and raise much-needed funds to help keep them responding.

Devon Air Ambulance have two helicopters, and two emergency response Critical Care Cars that may swiftly come to the aid of local people in the event of a medical emergency.

Big hearted children at an Exeter primary school have raised nearly £2,000 for charity by taking part in a fun run.

Pupils at Wynstream School on Burnthouse Lane chose to support FORCE Cancer Charity, which has its headquarters just a 10-minute walk away.

Nearly every one of their 350 pupils, from reception class to Year 6, got involved.

They walked, jogged and ran laps of the school playing field for up to 40 minutes.

Powderham Castle will celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III with a special weekend of events in aid of the British Red Cross.

A live screening of the Coronation will take place on the castle grounds on Saturday, May 6th, followed by a screening of the Coronation Concert and a community party on Sunday, May 7th.

There will also be local food, Pimms and cream teas, royal activities and entrance to Powderham Castle.

Partnership of pet charities working with global food giants to help people struggling to feed their pets

An alliance of national animal charities has joined forces with FareShare and global corporate donors including Pets at Home, Petplan, Purina Petcare, Lily’s Kitchen, and Mars Petcare to help owners in need to feed their hungry pets in the face of the cost of living crisis.

Dogs Trust, RSPCA, Battersea, and Cats Protection are working together with industry body UK Pet Food to secure food from pet food manufacturers, which is then distributed all over the UK through FareShare, the UK’s largest charity fighting hunger and food waste.
