Amy tackles huge challenge to thank FORCE

Twelve months ago, Amy Martin could barely run at all after a tough regime of cancer treatment.

But on Sunday May 24, she’ll be one of 440 people lining up as part of Team FORCE at Exeter’s Great West Run.

Amy aims to raise £1,000 for FORCE Cancer Charity to say thank you for all the support she has received from them since a diagnosis of breast cancer in late 2023.

Le Havre to Nice run raises funds for Macmillan Cancer Support charity

At the beginning of August 2013, James Berry and good friend Matt Fotheringham began the mammoth task of running the full length of France, from Le Havre in the north to Nice in the south, a total of 720 miles.

Their initial aim was to complete the challenge within the 31 days of August having run 630 miles, however their initial route had to change adding on 90 miles, despite this they managed to reach the finish line 5 days ahead of schedule.

Running with the bare essentials and camping almost every night, the boys completed this challenge relatively unsupported.

Exeter Leukaemia Fund to support North Devon District Hospital Chemotherapy Appeal

Exeter Leukaemia Fund is delighted to announce that the charity has agreed to significantly support the North Devon District Hospital Chemotherapy Appeal. The charity has pledged £50,000 towards the appeal and will be used specifically to fund one of the four dedicated haematology consulting rooms. Sunflowers help raise funds for Hospiscare at Darts Farm

Each year Darts Farm in Topsham grows a beautiful field of sunflowers for customers to pick in return for a donation to Hospiscare. This year the fantastic weather has made for a bumper crop, allowing Darts Farm to raise more money than ever before for the local charity.

So far, over £2,600 has been raised for Hospiscare and there are still plenty of sunflowers left for people to pick or to buy in store. For a map of the farm and instructions on how to pick your own, please visit the farm shop.

Once the sunflowers die down, they are left in the field as feed for local birds...

Record entry announced for charity swim

Organisers of the 8th Topsham-Turf swim are celebrating the annual event’s biggest number of participants, who are estimated to have raised over £8,000 so far with more sponsorship to be added over the coming weeks for a local charity.

The event, which has been staged by the Estuary League of Friends since 2005 and is now supported by Michelmores Solicitors, witnessed 133 swimmers start the mile long swim on Saturday 17 August at Topsham Ferryman’s Slipway on their way to the Turf Hotel.

WESC Foundation calls for entries to Over the Top Charity Challenge

YOU may have driven your car into it, but have you ever fancied abseiling 80ft down Princesshay car park? If the answer is ‘yes’, then you are in luck as WESC Foundation, a specialist centre for visual impairment, is hosting a charity abseil on Saturday 28 September, from 9am until 6pm, where anyone 12 years and over can take part.
