Five years ago, Dan was homeless, living in supported accommodation, and struggling with addiction and mental health challenges.

This month — the same week The Salvation Army in Exeter Temple celebrates its 145th anniversary — Dan stood alongside Majors Carl and Elizabeth Di-Palma who lead the church and charity in Exeter, to watch celebrity chef Michael Caines (MBE DL), cut the ribbon on Café EX4, a community café run by people with lived experience of homelessness, addiction, and neurodiversity.

Exeter ‘Come Dine With Me’ star's fundraiser

Exeter-based PR Consultant Glen King, with clients across the South West, celebrated her TV debut on popular Channel 4 programme, ‘Come Dine with Me’ by hosting a special event to raise awareness for Exeter Foodbank.

Glen organised an evening for close friends and family at the luxurious kitchen showroom Sapphire Living Space located at Topsham which was sponsored by V-Zug. Guests were welcomed with wine and canapés and asked to donate tins and packets of food for the local worthy cause.

At Exeter Leukaemia Fund, we know that the cost of Christmas can be expensive particularly those receiving medical treatment and are unable to work.

Men and women in the South West are being challenged to lay off the booze in January to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The charity is launching Dryathlon, its New Year fundraising campaign, and urging people across the West to sign up now before the festive season gets into full swing. Dryathletes pledge to drop the drink for a month and either get sponsored or donate the money they would have spent on alcohol to the charity. In May 2013 Exeter Leukaemia Fund launched the third offering in their Community Support Programme when they entered into an agreement with Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau to offer welfare and benefits advice to Haematology patients and their loved ones. Devon & Cornwall Food Association rescues good quality food from being destroyed and redistributes it to local charities and other organisations which support vulnerable people in our communities.

This environmental community project (which works in Exeter, Plymouth and Cornwall) has been chosen for the South West region for a People's Millions award but your help is now sought to secure the funding. Cartridges Solicitors will be donning their silly Christmas jumpers on 11 December to raise money for FORCE.

FORCE is a cancer charity who play a vital role in local cancer services and have done so for 26 years. They hold the belief that anyone diagnosed with cancer deserves the best possible treatment and professional support close to home. The wide services they offer are invaluable including support groups, counselling, benefits advice, complementary therapies and relaxation classes, coping with hair loss to name just a few.

Cats and kittens need keen bakers to help them.

The Friends of Axhayes Cats Protection Adoption Centre will be holding their Christmas coffee morning on Saturday 14th December between 11am and 2pm and are looking for donations of homemade cakes, mince pies, biscuits and other goodies that they can sell at the coffee morning to help raise much needed funds for the cats and kittens in their care.

They are also looking for donations of tombola prizes for the day. Every penny raised goes directly to looking after local cats and kittens in their care, which is approx 200+ at any one time.

Local Firms Get Into The Christmas Spirit For Charity

Two local professional firms joined forces to organise two seminars which raised monies for ‘Stop Abuse For Everyone’ (SAFE). Haines Watts Forensic, a national chartered accountancy firm and professional chartered financial planners and wealth advisers Towry, held the joint seminars in central Exeter. The events, aimed at family law barristers and solicitors, focused on financial volatility during the divorce process and offered solutions to the impact on clients’ financial settlements.
