Five years ago, Dan was homeless, living in supported accommodation, and struggling with addiction and mental health challenges.

Princesshay and WESC raise more than £30,000

The partnership between Princesshay and Exeter-based charity WESC Foundation has raised in excess of £30,000 in just 12 months.

WESC Foundation, located on Topsham Road, provides specialist care, education and therapy to children and young people with visual impairment and complex needs. ELF & Pavey Group announce partnership

ELF is delighted to announce that Pavey Group has agreed to help fund and sponsor the ELF Community Transport Service, an integral part of the ELF Community Support Programme, launched in May 2013.

Two former professional rugby players have rowed more than 500,000 metres (310 miles) each in just over two weeks – as part of a challenge to raise money for charity. Sam Blythe and Shane Kingsland, who both played for Exeter Chiefs, want to row a million metres each as part of Janurow, which ends on January 31st. After starting on New Year’s Day they have been rowing every day and have now passed their halfway target of 500 kilometres. They have also recruited members of the public to help them reach their overall target of more than 11 million metres – the distance to the Philippines....

Race for Life 2014 launches in Exeter

Exeter women are being urged to join forces and show cancer who’s boss by signing up to Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life 2014 which is now open for entries. Women have now got the choice of signing up for a 5K or 10K Race for Life this summer in Exeter as event organisers look to challenge more ladies to take part.

Charities seek daredevil record breakers

The hunt has started to find 260 outgoing fundraisers to help break a Guinness World Record in an event set to be the largest of its kind. Skydive UK near Honiton will attempt to take 260 people for a 15,000ft tandem skydive in just one day. The record, which is currently held in Germany, stands at 251 skydives to take place over a 24th hour period and was set in 2013.

ELF announce latest Ambassador Award recipient

Exeter Leukaemia Fund is delighted to announce that Ottery St Mary resident, Mary Andrews, is the latest recipient of the ELF Ambassador Award.

Mary has been an ELF volunteering stalwart for many years, helping out at raffles, table top sales, summer shows, collection box responsibilities, as well as being an integral member of her local ELF group. Axhayes says thanks to people of Devon

In December the Exeter Axhayes Adoption Centre ran their first Santa Paws Appeal. The idea was a simple one. People were asked to fill a box with cat toys, treats, food etc and donate it to the cats and kittens in their care.

Many local businesses supported the appeal. Badger Design Ltd designed and provided the posters. Co-Op stores at Sidwell Street, Cowick Street, Heavitree and Broadclyst acted as drop off points as did Lush Cosmetics on the High Street, Pets at Home Alphington and St Davids Veterinary Hospital.
