Local community groups in Exeter and the local area, are being thrown a lifeline as a new British non-profit, GatherUK, launches to combat the rising "cost of connection" imposed by global tech giants. As major international event platforms hike their annual organiser fees to nearly £300 per year, many local hobby groups, walking clubs, and support circles are facing the threat of closure. Founder Marc finally completes 25th Nello ride

The man who founded one of the biggest charity rides in the region has completed this year’s event seven weeks after everyone else!

Topsham-based wine, food and travel writer Marc Millon set up The Nello in 2000 to raise money for FORCE Cancer Charity in memory of his great friend Nello Ghezzo.

He was all set for the special 25th ride in June this year when COVID struck and for the first time, he was forced to sit it out.

Young carers from Devon, who attended this year’s Young Carers Festival with the support of Westbank, have told the charity they ‘had the time of their life’ at the annual event.

Through its Devon Young Carers Service, Westbank Community Health and Care supports more than 3,000 young people aged from 4 to 18 who help look after someone who is ill, disabled or misuses drugs and alcohol.

The Exeter Classic Motorcycle’s 33rd AnnualCharity Run takes place on Sunday 28 July.

Starting from Exeter Quay, the run covers around 90 miles over Dartmoor before returning to the Quay for prize awards.

Funds raised are shared between the Lord Mayor of Exeter’s charity, which this year is FORCE Cancer charity, Okehampton Community & Recreation Association (OCRA) and Princetown Community Centre.
