Exeter Leukaemia Fund wins MAB Foundation's £20,000 anniversary grant

The Mortgage Advice Bureau Foundation has awarded its one-off £20,000 Extra Funding Grant to Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF), a charity supporting people affected by blood cancer and their families.

The award marks three years of grant-giving by the Foundation, which has supported around 60 UK charities and raised over £550,000 since launching in 2022. Every previous grant recipient was invited to apply for the anniversary grant, with five charities shortlisted and asked to submit a video for colleagues and business partners to vote on.

Appeal brings Christmas cheer to charity

An Exeter domestic abuse charity has been inundated with Christmas gifts for children, after a Facebook appeal went viral.

The appeal was issued by Exeter blogger Rachaele Hambleton whose regular Facebook posts under the name ‘Part-Time Working Mummy’ have earned her more than 230,000 followers.

Biking Santas make a sight for sore eyes!

There was a sight to see around Exeter on Sunday 4 December for those doing some Christmas shopping as motorbikers dressed as Santas, Mrs Santa, elves and a christmas tree went through the city in convoy, taking part in a festive ride with a difference!

The riders were on their way from their meeting place at Exeter Services to deliver Christmas toys and donations to youngsters with life-limiting illnesses at the Little Bridge South West Children’s Hospice in North Devon.

Local Somerset charity Mend the Gap is appealing for local knitters to make jumpers for school children in Kenya. As the jumpers will be washed in river water, 4 ply acrylic wool will be needed as pure wool will shrink. Wool can be provided for those who would like to knit but are unable to get the wool. Exeter Foundation funds vital equipment for Hospiscare

The Exeter Foundation has donated £5000 to Exeter-based adult hospice charity, Hospiscare, to help fund 60 nurse bags.

The bags, which will hold key pieces of diagnostic equipment, will be used by Hospiscare’s 28 community nurses and bank staff at patient’s homes, nursing homes and at hospices to help diagnose patients more directly.

Grieving granddaughter's beautiful poem put to music

Back in 2014, Exeter Hospiscare staff were very touched when 12 year old Josie Sanders handed them a beautiful poem.

Josie’s poem expressed how she felt about her experience with the local charity after her Granddad Geoff Fletcher, 80, spent his last few days at the city hospice.

Just six weeks earlier he had been diagnosed with bowel cancer.

Josie wrote the poem as a way of coping with her grief and to express how overwhelmed her whole family were by the support they received at Hospiscare.

Dogs Trust helps pet owners in housing crisis

Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, will be delivering hampers to homeless dogs this Christmas after 170 homelessness organisations requested parcels for 1200 dogs. Convertible chairs donated to Bolham Ward

Three convertible chairs have been donated to Bolham Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to enable carers to stay with their relatives if they need to whilst in hospital.

The donation to the Bolham Ward Trust Fund has been made in memory of former patient Patrick Tilbury by local charities The Exeter Foundation, The Exeter Lions and close friend Laura Coniam.

Patrick’s parents Barbara and David Tilbury organised the £4500 donation to the neurological ward where he spent time being cared for earlier this year.

Car raffle draw on Christmas Eve will find winner

Exeter Deaf Academy, Princesshay's charity of the year, launched its charity raffle of a Mercedes Benz A-Class in April and now the countdown has started to announce the winner of the amazing prize, a £22,000 A-Class, courtesy of Mercedes-Benz of Exeter to raise money for the Exeter Deaf Academy.
