Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

The Pavey Group’s ‘Donate & Do Good Day’ for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) was a resounding success.

The day was held in Exeter on Tuesday 25 October and the idea was, as many busy professionals don’t have time to take their unwanted items to charity shops, the team from Pavey Group would visit the businesses to pick up collections instead!

Bakes and bargains for Halloween at FORCE shop

The FORCE Cancer Charity shop in Heavitree will have some bewitching bargains to celebrate Halloween on Saturday (October 29).

Every piece of clothing in the Fore Street store will be on sale at half price and there will also be homemade cakes for sale.

“Why not pop in for a spell,” said FORCE Shop Manager Anna Heard. “We promise there will be more thrills than chills and you’ll miss a trick if you don’t treat yourself.”

She and her staff will be in fancy dress for the day to add to the enchanted atmosphere.

Jolly Good Jaunt is a jolly big success

Last Sunday’s Hospiscare Jolly Good Jaunt was a huge success. A great big thank you to the many people who participated or who helped to stage the event.

403 people donned their tweed and walked 7.5 miles raising much needed money for their local hospice.

Amongst these walkers was the mayoress of Honiton Caroline Kolek, who had a brilliant day. She said: "Myself and Stephen were only too pleased to support our local hospice by taking part in the lovely `Jolly Good Jaunt`.

Christmas time is approaching fast and that means it’s Hospiscare Christmas hamper time once again!

But what does this involve? In fact, it’s very simple.

The local charity is asking everybody to decorate a box and get friends, family colleagues to donate an item to fill it. After that, we just need you to sell some raffle tickets. The winner gets to take home the hamper!

Street Heat leader to lose locks for charity

Young samba band leader Lucy Woolcock is making a double donation to charity on Saturday (22 October), with her hair raising funds for a good cause.

Lucy’s treasured tresses are to be lopped off to raise funds for Meningitis Now – and her lovely lost locks will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for child cancer sufferers.

Lucy, aged 26, has been a member of Exeter-based community samba band Street Heat for five years. The band has over 50 members of all ages and Lucy and was recently voted its joint music co-ordinator.

Every Spring and Autumn Freemasons from all around Devon meet to support local organisations who are in need of financial assistance, among which are Children’s charities , Scouts, Youth Centres and locally based charities including Hospices Hospital Services and Cancer Charities.

Samaritans say it's good to squawk!

The Samaritans motto, It’s Good To Talk, became It’s Good To Squawk during Exeter’s Great West Run - all thanks to a supporter who ran dressed as a parrot.

Electrician Colin Bickerstaff raised £350 for the Exeter Mid and East Devon branch of the charity by completing the 13.1 mile course around the city centre on Sunday.

Exeter-based Colin was inspired by his wife Donna who is a volunteer with the charity, which is based in Richmond Road close to the route of the run.

Staff from healthcare and protection insurance provider The Exeter have put their best foot forward for their current Charity of the Year, Rainbow Living.

A 14 strong team - and 2 dogs - took on a 15 mile walk and so far have raised £988 for the local charity. The Exeter will be generously pound-matching, making an impressive total of £1,976.

Starting at Teginmouth Pier, the walkers followed the coastal path past Dawlish and Starcross and ended at the Quay in Exeter seven hours later.

Hospiscare are delighted to announce that two more of the celebrated local charity’s coffee mornings have proven very successful.

Little MarVals Preschool in Pinhoe held their Hospiscare coffee morning on 30th September. The school which caters for children aged 2-5 years, invited mums and dads and the local community to a parents’ coffee morning at the United Reformed Church in Pinhoe.
