When a Freemasons Lodge was first established in Moretonhampstead a town on Dartmoor in 1932 they purchased the freehold of their present building.

They selected the name “Sanctuary Lodge” after “Sentry Field” where French prisoners held during the Napoleonic War could, if they escaped from Dartmoor prison claim sanctuary and possibly become parole prisoners working for the local gentry of the area.

Due to a large increase in membership from the Tavistock area in recent times, a decision was taken by the lodge members to move the lodge and sell the building, re-establishing...

Local Somerset charity Mend the Gap is appealing for local knitters to make jumpers for school children in Kenya. As the jumpers will be washed in river water, 4 ply acrylic wool will be needed as pure wool will shrink. Wool can be provided for those who would like to knit but are unable to get the wool. There are well established regular knitting groups in the villages of Churchill, Langford, Sandford and Kewstoke that meet regularly to knit for the charity. The charity, based in Churchill and Langford villages in North Somerset, links local schools and communities to contemporaries in...

Back in 2014, Exeter Hospiscare staff were very touched when 12 year old Josie Sanders handed them a beautiful poem.

Just six weeks earlier he had been diagnosed with bowel cancer.

Josie wrote the poem as a way of coping with her grief and to express how overwhelmed her whole family were by the support they received at Hospiscare.
