WOMEN in Exeter are being urged to pull on their trainers and enter Cancer Research UK’s Exeter bumper weekend as there are only a few days left until registration closes.

Over 4,000 women have already signed up to take part in Exeter Pretty Muddy on Saturday 21st July or Exeter 5k & 10k on Sunday 22nd July at Westpoint Arena but there are some places still available.

For the first time ever, Pretty Muddy Kids will be taking place before the adults event on Saturday 21st July. Pretty Muddy Kids is a new exciting obstacle course designed just for children - with added mud, thrills and spills. From scramble nets and space hoppers to mud chutes and muddy pools, children will face a range of fun and muddy obstacles to crawl under, clamber over and charge through.

Entry closes at midnight on Friday and organisers are encouraging women committed to the cause to sign up to the event right now at raceforlife.org.

Money raised will help Cancer Research UK scientists find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease, helping save more lives.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k, 10k, and Pretty Muddy events which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer sooner by funding ground-breaking research.

Amy Salmon, Event Manager for Race for Life in Devon &Cornwall said: “Every day, around 90 people are diagnosed with cancer in the South West.* Now is the time to commit to Race for Life, join like-minded ladies at the start line and make a real difference in the fight against the disease.

“By taking part and raising money, our participants will play a crucial role in helping to turn discoveries made in the lab into new, better treatments for patients in Exeter and across the UK. That’s why every step, every person and every penny raised counts.

“Our aim is that one day everyone will beat cancer. The more women who Race for Life, the sooner we can help that day come. We are urging women in Exeter to sign up right now and show their support.”

One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives, but the good news is more people are surviving the disease now than ever before. Cancer survival in the UK has doubled since the early 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.

Amy continued: “We’re calling on the women of Exeter to sign up today as their participation and contribution is so important. If you’re not able to take part, we are always short of volunteers for this event. Please email Amy.Salmon@cancer.org.uk if you would like to get involved as a volunteer.

“Cancer is a disease that affects us all in some way. By taking part in Race for Life, people can come together to remember loved ones lost to cancer or celebrate the lives of those dear to them who have survived. By raising money, participants can also support Cancer Research UK scientists to make vital strides forward in research, helping more men, women and children survive the disease.”
