Golfers take to the green for Hospiscare
Organisers of one of Devon’s premier golf tournaments will be celebrating its tenth anniversary in style this summer, hoping to raise more than £100k for local charity Hospiscare.
More than 70 people have already signed up to take part in Hospiscare’s Golf Day, being held on Thursday, July 10, where they will have the chance to take home the Marnie Burgoyne Memorial Trophy.
The much-loved amateur tournament has raised around £92,000 to date and event organisers are hoping that this amount will rise to above £100,000 when they celebrate its tenth anniversary later this year.
Held at the Exeter Golf and Country Club on Topsham Road, teams of four will complete a game of golf and have the chance to win prizes throughout the day before enjoying a two-course carvery in the clubhouse.
The tournament is held each year in memory of Marnie Burgoyne; one of Hospiscare’s first fundraiser’s who died at the Exeter hospice in 2000.
The golf day has become one of the highlights of the Hospiscare calendar and runs smoothly with the support of the Golf Day Committee and sponsors Exeter Estate Agents, Burgoynes.
Supporting the charity has been a part of John Burgoynes’ estate agency for the last few years. John Burgoyne said: ‘It is impossible to find enough superlatives to describe how wonderful the whole care environment and service is at Hospiscare. The hospice is a place where patients, their carers and family can feel uplifted thanks to the dedicated nursing staff, management team and volunteer workers who, together, create such a happy, caring and supportive atmosphere.’’
He said: ‘Hospiscare is recognised throughout Devon, everyone I speak to speaks so highly of the hospice, there is quality of life right up to the end which is amazing. I use the word wonderful a lot to describe Hospiscare because it is a word that seems to sum up Hospiscare perfectly, simply wonderful.’’
With £100 from each house sale during a three month period going to Hospiscare, John said that he was happy to support a charity which ‘’reaches out to the community in such a big way’’.
He said: ‘’I see a lot of people that may be selling a property because their parents may have passed away or benefitted from the care of the hospice, being able to sponsor the golf tournament is something that we are very proud to do, it is now recognised as one of Exeter’s premier golfing events.’’
The Burgoynes Estate Agents and the Golf Day Committee are looking forward to another successful day of golf in aid of the local hospice this July.
