At the Community Awards Presentation which took place last September at Mount Edgecumbe Masonic Hall Plymouth, Ian Kingsbury the Provincial Grand Master of Devonshire Freemasons presented Dream-A-Way with a cheque for £25,000.

As a result of this splendid donation they invited us down to the Haven Holiday Park at Sandy Bay Exmouth recently to take part in the opening ceremony of a magnificent new caravan which will be used for the respite care of families in need.

Dream-A-Way is a small local charity which over the last few years have raised thousands of pounds to help make a dream come true for Devon’s children and young adults which disabilities and life-threatening health conditions.

Founded in 1993 (which means they are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year) Dream-A-Way provide holidays and days out for people of all ages who are seriously ill and now have 10 caravans thanks to the grant made by the freemasons on the Sandy Bay site. These caravans have provided holidays for over 12,000 people since they purchased their first van.

The caravan was officially opened by 4 year old Jessica Boyle who has been the recipient of holidays with her Mum in the past and is a seriously wonderful child who exemplifies the reason for doing what they do. When talking to the Chairman of Dream-A-Way Jeff Merrett MBE later in the day it was suggested that they should name their new caravan to show the extraordinary generosity of the Freemasons of Devonshire, Someone there (I don’t know who) suggested ”Kingsbury Castle” but we will have to wait to find out their final decision.
