Bag It. Beat It. and help fight heart disease
The British Heart Foundation shops’ Bag It. Beat It. stock appeal is under way in Exeter.
The campaign was officially launched at Princesshay on 5 September by the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Percy Prowse, when he donated the first bag of items.
Every bag donated to the Bag It. Beat It. campaign this September will fund life-saving heart research, helping over 40,000 little heroes continue to fight congenital heart disease.
The Exeter community is being urged to join in and donate a bag of good quality clothes, shoes, toys, books, CDs, DVDs and bric-a-brac and drop it off at the centre on any Friday or Saturday in September or take it to your local BHF shop.
The BHF currently funds over £14 million into congenital heart disease research. This year, they need to raise even more funds.
Before the BHF was founded, only one in five babies born with congenital heart disease saw their first birthday, let alone their first day of school. But now, thanks to pioneering research, around 4,000 experience their first day every year. Every penny of profit raised from the bags donated to the Bag It. Beat It. event at Princesshay will go on to raise vital funds for life-saving research.
After the event in the shopping centre has ended, bags can still be donated to the local BHF shop.
Andrew Littlejohns, Operations Manager at Princesshay, said: “We are all guilty at some point in our lives of having cupboards full to the brim with items. So, why not make life easier, clear out the cupboards and join in the Bag It. Beat It. campaign and help fund life-saving research into congenital heart disease.
“Please get all your friends, neighbours, family and colleagues together and simply fill up a bag and join the BHF in the fight against heart disease.”
