Exeter divorce lawyer joins stellar line up at London event

One of the UK’s top divorce lawyers, who is based in Exeter, is part of a line up of top speakers at a London event for senior women in surgery.

Liz Allen, head of the family law team at Stephens Scown LLP will join speakers including the psychologist, child therapist and media personality Professor Tanya Bryon and fashion designer Amanda Wakeley at the Senior Women in Surgery Day on Friday, 6 February. A leading Devon accountancy firm has raised almost £10,000 for local and national charities.

Simpkins Edwards LLP, which has offices across the county in Exeter, Barnstaple, Okehampton, Heathfield, Holsworthy and Honiton, specialising in family owned businesses, raised a total of £9,616.11 for charitable causes during 2014.

Rural Enterprise Grants provide massive boost businesses

Thirty businesses in Devon and Somerset have received around £800,000 of grant money to help boost the region’s economy and create jobs.

Funds were secured in 2012 by Devon County Council from Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) and the RDPE (Rural Development Programme for England) for the Heart of the South West Rural Enterprise Grant Scheme at the beginning of last year.

84 jobs will have been created by March 2015 and a further 33 by March 2017 totalling 117 giving a GVA (Gross Value Added) increase of £4.9m by March 2017

The first four trainees have completed their courses at the new Gregory Group Transport Training Academy which was officially opened on Friday 30 January at Gregory’s Cullompton Depot by Neil Parish, the MP for Tiverton and Honiton.

The ground-breaking driver training programme is intended to address an ongoing shortage of new driver recruits in the transport and logistics sector and will provide a service to all parts of the Gregory business, including milk collection, distribution and palletised services.

Dragons' Den whizz-kid aquires Bargain Parking

A young whizz kid – who persuaded two of the Dragons from the popular TV show to part with £60,000 – has now acquired a parking business from an Exeter-born entrepreneur.

The success story first began for Harrison Woods when he appeared on the hit show in 2012. The 24 year old survived the dreaded Dragons’ Den to secure the investment for his first parking space rental company from Theo Paphitis and Peter Jones.

Voting has opened for the Exeter Business Improvement District (BID).

640 businesses from across Exeter City Centre are eligible to vote on the scheme, which if voted in will raise £2.4 million over the next five years.

Premier Communication Electronics (PCE) has moved into new premises in Exeter to accommodate its business growth.
