Sky team keep rhinos on the ball

Sky field engineers from across Devon converged on Paignton Zoo to make some hefty treats for the larger animals.

The team of 18 engineers from Plymouth, Tavistock and Torbay made environmental enrichment devices for different species, including big balls for the rhinos and big cats.

As you can imagine, any toy that a rhino is going to play with needs to be tough. A rhino ball is made out of car and tractor tyres bolted together. In this instance, they have metal brackets inside so they make a noise when rolled, making them even more interesting.

Exeter firm secures £1.7m grant

Exeter based Ashwoods Automotive Ltd has today been advised it has been conditionally awarded a grant of £1.17m from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund (RGF) to develop a new manufacturing facility. The new facility will be located in Devon and is expected to create 51 new jobs over three years.

Small firms should prepare for auto-enrolment

Small businesses across the South West are being advised to prepare themselves for pensions auto-enrolment says ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants). Figures show that there are 513,000 companies across the region that are classed as being a small or medium sized business.
