Devon law firm Kitsons has acquired Exeter-based Armitage & Co and appointed the principal and renowned private client specialist Simon Armitage as a Partner with effect of 1 June 2013.

Kitsons, which is headquartered in Torquay, Devon and has offices in Exeter and Plymouth, seeks to enhance its private client and conveyancing offering from the firm’s Exeter office.

Simon Armitage founded Armitage & Co in September 1979, following several years in Local Government, firstly in Maidenhead, and subsequently with Mid Devon District Council. Having operated as a sole practitioner in Exeter for over 30 years specialising in probate and residential conveyancing work, he has an excellent reputation and has grown a very successful practice with a considerable and loyal client base.

Kitsons Managing Partner, James Cross said Simon Armitage’s portfolio of more than 2,000 clients in the South West compliments Kitsons’ Devon based portfolio.

He said: “There is remarkable synergy between the two companies and by acquiring Armitage & Co it will give Kitsons the structure and market presence to further develop the business in the city.

“We see this acquisition really as more of a merger, with both companies joining forces and expanding their range of services on offer to clients.

"Appointing Simon Armitage as a Partner is an important step in Kitsons’ growth strategy and now provides us with an excellent opportunity to expand the firm and increase our services provided from the Exeter office where the external market remains very buoyant.”

Simon Armitage, Partner at Kitsons said: “After 30 years of being a sole practitioner, I am excited at the prospect of helping to build Kitsons’ development and at the same time securing the future service for my many loyal clients.”
