Exeter Together enjoys massive Social Media success

Local company Gleave Media was delighted to have been chosen to work on the social media platforms, Facebook and Twitter with Exeter City Council on the recent ‘Exeter Together’ campaign.

The campaign revolved around the people of Exeter being invited to unite and switch their energy bills through the Exeter Together umbrella during a limited time period. Exeter was one of only five togethers in the UK, the others being Cornwall, UK, Scots and Birmingham and Solihull and the performances provide an interesting insight into the dynamics of collective switching campaigns in small and larger communities.

Energy bills have risen by over £700 on average since 2004 – that's an increase of 140%. According to the Committee on Climate Change, energy bills could go up by as much as £600 as we head into the next few decades of uncertainty.

Exeter Together was not just about saving money, it was about being part of something and making a positive difference. By its very nature this was a short-run campaign focussed on a very targeted area and the success of this campaign on Facebook and Twitter clearly underlines what can be achieved with proper planning and management.

As a direct result of Gleave Media’s involvement in this campaign online engagement on facebook increased by over 6000%.
