Devon Contractors, which is based in Clyst St Mary, celebrates work beginning on a new £1.8 million build for Chulmleigh Community College. The project will be a fantastic addition to the facilities at Chulmleigh both for the students and the wider community.

Students will take Drama, Music, Science, Modern Foreign Languages and Humanities lessons in the new building. Year 7 twins Andrea and Nicholas Robinson (pictured), whose favourite subjects are Art and Drama respectively will be some of the first to benefit from the new facilities.

Their Head Teacher, Mike Johnson, said “I’m delighted to be working with Devon Contractors with this exciting new project. This building will help us raise our standards even further and will provide students and staff with accommodation fit for the 21st century.” The two storey building will be ready for pupils to use from Summer 2013, and is the result of lots of hard work by the Chulmleigh Academy Trust and Architects/Project Managers Oxenham Consult.

Shaun Bennington, Devon Contractors’ Financial Director, said: “The new building at Chulmleigh Community College offers Devon Contractors the opportunity to contribute to a rural school which is right at the heart of a strong local community, helping to safeguard the future of them both.

"We are all looking forward to working with the community on this project who have already been incredibly supportive of our work, going out of their way to offer help and advice.”

Devon Contractors and the students were joined by Nick Harvey MP, as well as local Councillors from Burrington, Winkleigh, High Bickington and Chulmleigh Parish Councils, all of whom have supported the new facility. North Devon MP Nick Harvey, said “I am delighted that Chulmleigh Community School have been able to secure funding for this project: Chulmleigh was awarded one of the largest sums nationally under the Academy Capital Maintenance Fund bid which has enabled this project to go ahead.”
