Devon based logistics business, Gregory Distribution Limited (GDL) will be using National Lorry Week (19-24 September) to recruit the next generation into the transport industry by staging two impressive vehicle displays in and around Exeter later this month.

There are plans to display a 44–tonne Gregory articulated lorry for two days at Exeter Services (20th and 21st) along with a number of vehicles from other South West transport businesses, and at Exeter City Centre’s Bedford Square on Princesshay (22nd and 24th).

The display will feature a trailer especially liveried for Devon Air Ambulance (DAA) promoting the charity’s imminent introduction of night flying. Fund-raisers from DAA will support the Gregory team and will receive a cheque for £1200 raised by the North Devon sub-region of the Road Haulage Association.

The RHA’s National Lorry Week is a UK-wide awareness campaign aimed at demonstrating to the public the vital role that lorry and road freight play in moving the economy and in daily life.

Paul Willis, Gregory’s Head of Business Support and Compliance and Chairman of the North Devon Road Haulage Association, said: “As well as the principle aim of raising the awareness of the essential role of the road transport industry, we are using the event to introduce the next generation of young people to the transport industry and demonstrate what a responsible, challenging, professional and rewarding career it can provide.”

DAA Director of Fund-raising Caroline Creer commented: “We are very grateful to Gregory who have been staunch supporters of our work for many years. National Lorry Week actually coincides with National Air Ambulance Week so the showcasing of this lorry with the message ‘Help us make night time flight time’ is perfectly timed as DAA plans to commence nigh operations next month.

The RHA’s cheque presentation to DAA will take place at 4pm on Wednesday 21st September in the coach park at Exeter Services.
