Award win for Devonshire Homes’ Cullompton site, Rivel’s Green

The team behind Devonshire Homes’ popular Cullompton development, Rivel’s Green, has scooped a prestigious industry award and is heading to London after coming top in the regional LABC Building Excellence Awards 2018.

Rivel’s Green, a successful new homes development by Devonshire Homes that is nearing completion, faced stiff competition to win the award for Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development in front of an audience of over 350 construction industry professionals. Partnering with GJR Architects, Devonshire Homes have brought 30 affordable homes to the site which sits in an idyllic location close to the River Culm. Adding to this achievement, Site Manager Martin White, age 49 from Mid Devon, was also highly commended in the Site Manager Award.

The LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Excellence Awards recognise fantastically made buildings from a technical and construction point of view. The judges appreciate the technical challenges construction and design teams face and the awards celebrate how they’ve faced up to and overcome them thanks to collaborative working.

Launched in 2016, Rivel’s Green is a collection of two, three and four bedroom homes located close to junction 28 on the M5 which is convenient for a commute to Exeter and Taunton. Sitting deep in the heart of Devon, Rivel’s Green is close to the town of Cullompton which boasts good amenities including a primary and secondary school, sports and leisure centre, a supermarket and a variety of popular shops.

Devonshire Homes’ site will now proceed to the national grand finals which will be held on Friday 9th November at Westminster Park Plaza in London.

Martin White, Site Manager at Rivel’s Green, commented: “The whole team are delighted to win the LABC Excellence Award for the Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development. It’s a real testimony to the hard work that has gone into creating such high-quality homes that are delivering much needed rented homes for the people of Cullompton and we are delighted that the judges have recognised these efforts.”

Martin continued: “We’re now looking forward to attending the grand finals in November and have our fingers crossed for a national win.”

Paul Everall, LABC’s Chief Executive, commented: “The awards are an opportunity for us to celebrate some of the very best in construction in England and Wales, recognising the high level of quality and skill we can and do reach in the UK. The standard of nominees this year was exceptional.”
