Following an ongoing community consultation exercise, last Saturday 10th October marked the start of an exciting new phase in the planned activity trail at Cowick Barton fields.

The Steering Group for the Cowick Barton Alcoa Activity Trail which includes councillors, residents, activity providers, Active Devon and Exeter City Council, met in the park to do a walk around and hands on mapping exercise.

Local residents have begun to think in very innovative ways about what they would like to see in the space. Phase one will include the planting of fruit and other trees in a linear orchard, an idea which is being driven by local residents. The vision of residents, partners and the local community will quickly become reality thanks to funding from Alcoa.

A whole series of community events and celebrations have taken place at Cowick Barton over the last six months and there are more scheduled for the half term including a family fun cycle day on Monday 26th October and a Kids Hallowe'en Fun Run on Thursday 29th October.

“The success has been connecting all the people who use the space and care about its future, ranging from local residents to sports clubs and youth groups” said Laura Robinson from Active Devon. “It’s lovely to see their ideas and visions taking shape”.
